Automatic Drawings
In the summer of 2022, I did several sessions of Ouji Board seances with folks at my grad school for a book project, Ghost Machine. I became interested in distributed intelligence after watching two people work together unconsciously to create "spirits." I wondered what automatic drawings made by more than one person would look like, so I bought a planchette (the triangle thingy that moves around the Ouija Board) with a pen in it and brought people into my studio in pairs. All four initial groups were able to get things moving and these are some of the resulting drawings.
The two participants sat facing each other with a drawing board resting on their knees. They each put two fingers lightly on the planchette while I coached them on how to begin.
This project is ongoing.
